5 football clubs from around Scotland receive Scottish FA Quality Mark, presented at Hampden during the half-time match break between Scotland and Croatia . Scotland ’s First Minister, Alex Salmond was pleased to presented the awards on the night.

The awards, which are part of the Scottish FA’s youth development drive, rewards proactive clubs and schools working to increase youth and community participation and to improve player, coach and volunteer development.


The Scottish FA / McDonalds partnership initiative currently works with over 300 clubs and schools around Scotland and has helped train over 4000 volunteers in coach education and football first aid.


The clubs receiving the award are:


From Edinburgh - we have Tam Smith representing Hutchison Vale Community Sports Club
Hutchison-Vale

Hutchison Vale is one of the largest and most prominent grassroots clubs in Scotland . They have hundreds of boys and girls participating in their many team and football schools ranging from tiny tots to under 17s. They have made an outstanding contribution to Scottish football, developing the early talents of many future professional players including Scotlands own Kenny Miller.


From the North of Scotland we have John Ross representing Forres Mechanics Youth Development.

Forres Mechanics play development football in the Murray youth development league as well as the Highland football league. They have also recently started a primary section encompassing P4 to P7 kids.


From a very famous part of Scotland we have Gordon McCauly from Bannockburn Amateurs.

Bannockburn play in the Caledonian league and have recently introduced new youth teams at under 19s. they are also in the process of starting three further age groups from next season with the help of the SFA Football Development staff and Active Stirling.


From Carluke we have David Lannigan representing Milton Rovers.

Milton Rovers have already received the initial Quality Mark from the SFA but have worked hard over the last year to ensure they also received the next Development level. Founded in 1991 the club has over 250 young boys and girls playing football at the club catering for football from aged six to adult. The club has very strong links with the local community and a very proactive committee. Many professional players have also passed through their ranks and currently have past players playing for Hamilton, Morton and Motherwell.


All the way from Oban we have David Buchanan representing Oban Saints

Saints currently run six teams - Under 13s, Under 15s, Under 16s, Under 17s, Senior amateur and a Veteran's team. Next year the club will be starting up under 14 and under 19 teams and hopefully a ladies team. Oban Saints are keen to work with the Scottish FA to attain their highest award - the Community Club award.
